Suggestion, there is no need to generalize an entire geographic population


There is no "the south". There are only a lot of individual people who live within artificial borders. Many of which are strong academics and scientists. And many don't care at all about football or nascar or other stereotypical things.

So try to separate the stereotypes from the actual people. You will find a lot of good, smart and caring people everywhere, including the south. Just don't let them con you with their BBQ. The only good BBQ is in Texas.
